Analysis of the characteristics of different galvanized pipe processes and application scenarios

Time : 2025-07-06

As a professional steel supplier, we are well aware of the importance of galvanized pipe in all kinds of projects, while different galvanizing processes create products with different focuses on performance, accurate matching scenarios in order to play the maximum value.

Hot-dip galvanizing process is a widely used one at present. After the steel pipe is pickled and descaled, it is immersed in molten zinc solution to form a uniform and thick zinc layer on the surface, which is usually above 85μm in thickness. The zinc layer formed by this process is firmly bonded to the steel pipe matrix, as if the steel pipe is dressed in a layer of strong “armor”, which can effectively resist corrosion brought about by soil, humid air, etc. In municipal underground pipe networks, sewage treatment projects and other long-term projects in complex environments, the service life of hot-dip galvanized pipe can reach more than 20 years, which makes it an extremely cost-effective choice.

In contrast, the electro-galvanizing process allows zinc ions to attach to the surface of the steel pipe through electrolysis, forming a thinner zinc layer, generally in the range of 10 - 30 μm. However, the surface is smoother and has a neat appearance, and for some scenarios where there is a requirement for appearance and a lighter corrosive environment, such as indoor water supply and drainage pipelines, light shelf support, etc., the electro-galvanized pipe can ensure the basic anticorrosive properties at At the same time, to meet the aesthetic demand.
