347 / 347H Stainless Steel Bar & Rod for High-Temperature Applications

  • Stabilized Austenitic Stainless Steel with Excellent Creep Resistance

  • Designed for Welded & High-Temperature Service

  • ASTM Standard, Custom Sizes Available

347 / 347H Stainless Steel Bar & Rod

Product Overview

347 and 347H stainless steel bars are stabilized austenitic chromium-nickel alloys containing columbium (niobium) as a stabilizing element. This stabilization effectively prevents carbide precipitation during welding or high-temperature service, significantly reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion.

Compared with standard 304/304L stainless steel, 347/347H bars offer improved creep strength and stress rupture performance, making them ideal for long-term exposure to elevated temperatures.

Key Advantages

  • Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding
  • Superior high-temperature strength compared to 304 / 304L
  • Good oxidation and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments
  • Suitable for heavy welded components without post-weld annealing

Weldability & Heat Treatment

Weldability

  • Excellent weldability using all standard fusion and resistance welding methods
  • No post-weld annealing required to prevent intergranular corrosion

Heat Treatment

  • Annealing temperature: 1800–2000°F (982–1093°C)
  • Stress relief possible within 800–1500°F without corrosion risk
  • Not hardenable by heat treatment

FAQ

What is the difference between 347 and 347H stainless steel bars?

347H contains a higher carbon content than 347, providing improved creep strength and better performance at elevated temperatures.

Is 347 stainless steel better than 304 for welded applications?

Yes. 347 stainless steel is stabilized with niobium, which significantly reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding compared to 304.

Can you supply non-standard sizes?

Yes. Voyage Metal offers custom sizes, cut-to-length services, and tailored specifications based on project requirements.
