6061-T6 is one of the most commonly used 6000 series aluminum alloys.

6061 is an aluminum alloy, with magnesium and silicon as the alloying elements. It is typically produced with very smooth surface fit for anodizing. It has generally good mechanical properties and is heat treatable and weldable.

In T6 temper, the tensile strength is ≥310 MPa, and the yield strength is ≥275 MPa. Its strength is higher than that of 6063 but lower than that of 7075.

It can be welded by TIG/MIG. After welding, artificial aging (such as T6 treatment) is required to restore its performance.

Corrosion resistance:

It is resistant to atmospheric and fresh water corrosion, which is better than that of the 2XXX series (e.g., 2024) but weaker than that of the 5XXX series (e.g., 5052).

Lightweight:

It has a density of 2.70 g/cm³, which is 65% lighter than steel.
