MATERIAL / TYPE 430
Sheet and plate for appliance panels, decorative components and selected catering-equipment applications.
Voyage Metal supplies 430 in standard or custom sizes, with mill and polished surface options, including 2B, bright annealed (BA) and No. 4. This ferritic grade is commonly considered for indoor use in mildly corrosive environments.
01 / SPECIFICATIONS
Use these references to prepare your specification. Dimensions are in millimeters. Thin-sheet examples do not define the plate range or represent a stock list.
| Specification | Order options and scope |
|---|---|
| Grade / form | Type 430 stainless steel sheet and plate. |
| Product standard | ASTM A240/A240M where specified. For an EN 10088-2 order, include the required grade designation, edition and acceptance criteria. |
| Thin-sheet reference | Published mill reference: 0.40–2.00 mm thick, up to 1500 mm wide. Size and finish combinations are subject to order review. |
| Sheet-size examples | 914 × 1828 mm and 1219 × 2438 mm. Specify thickness separately, together with quantity per size. |
| Plate / custom sizes | Send thickness × width × length and quantity. Plate dimensions and supply condition are reviewed individually; the thin-sheet reference above does not define our plate range. |
| Surface | 1D / No. 1, 2D, 2B, BA or No. 4, according to product form and order. Decorative finishes require a separate specification review. |
| Condition / tolerance | State the rolling and annealing condition, dimensional tolerances, flatness and edge requirements. Acceptance follows the agreed standard and order specification. |
| Minimum quantity | 1 metric ton. Include the quantity for each size and finish in a mixed specification inquiry. |
| Documents / packing | MTC, origin documents, third-party inspection and standard export or custom packing can be discussed with the order. Specify the required document type and inspection scope. |
For visible panels, dimensions alone are not enough. Add surface acceptance criteria, film requirements and packing protection to the same specification.
02 / SURFACE OPTIONS
430 is not limited to three finishes. Start with a mill or polished finish, then define any decorative texture, visible-face requirements and surface protection.

| Finish | Appearance / process | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| 1D / No. 1 | A dull, comparatively rough hot-rolled finish after annealing and descaling. | Use the required standard designation. Confirm the product form, thickness and whether further finishing is planned. |
| 2D | A dull cold-rolled surface after annealing and descaling. | Define the forming requirements and whether the surface will remain visible. |
| 2B | A general-purpose cold-rolled finish with a final pass on polished rolls. | State appearance criteria beyond the mill finish when needed. |
| BA | Bright annealed; generally smoother and brighter than 2B. | Define reflectivity and handling protection. BA is not a mirror-polish specification. |
| No. 4 | A mechanically brushed or polished finish. | Specify texture, direction and a reference sample for matching adjacent panels. |
Hairline (HL), mirror polish and patterned / embossed surfaces can be submitted for project-specific evaluation. Provide the finish reference, dimensions, quantity and acceptance criteria so the team can assess the processing route.
These are not interchangeable finish names or a promise that every combination is available. “8K” alone is not a complete mirror-finish specification; agree on the intended appearance. Patterned finishes require the actual pattern and depth requirements.
PVD color and anti-fingerprint coating: the illustration includes these specialist treatments. Send the color, coating-performance and service requirements for feasibility review; they are not part of the standard finish offer shown in the table.
Protective film is separate from the metal finish. Include subsequent cutting, forming and handling requirements when choosing film and packing.
03 / APPLICATIONS
The following examples illustrate where 430 flat products may be considered. The list is not exhaustive; the part design, fabrication route and service environment govern material selection.

Sheet for appliance facings and refrigeration-cabinet panels.
Material for indoor decorative panels and trim.
Sheet for selected parts after service requirements are assessed.
A documented 430 application, subject to the specific equipment design.
Material for trim where the vehicle specification permits 430.
Sheet-material applications that require thermal-service review.
These examples describe uses for the material. Voyage Metal supplies sheet and plate; the examples do not imply supply of finished appliances, vehicle parts or certified equipment.
For salt exposure, persistent moisture, aggressive cleaning or food contact, assess the actual conditions before specifying 430. Do not substitute it for a required 304 or 316 grade without project approval.
Read the 304, 316 and 430 equipment-selection guide04 / BUYING QUESTIONS
No. Define the required appearance and polishing direction, and agree on a reference when adjacent panels must match. The finish name alone is not a complete visual acceptance standard.
A magnet check cannot replace the ordered specification and material documents. Our stainless steel magnetism guide explains the context; purchasing acceptance should follow the required grade and documentation.
